Amarillo City Council candidate Dean Crump has picked up an endorsement from one of the outgoing members of the current council.
According to Crump’s website, Councilman Eddy Sauer has endorsed his candidacy for City Council Place 1 this year. Crump is running to replace Cole Stanley, who is leaving his seat to run for mayor.
Sauer has served on the Amarillo City Council since 2017. Throughout his tenure on the City Council, Sauer has been a consistent supporter of raising taxes and expanding the size of the city government. Sauer was one of several councilmembers who voted to add additional red light cameras to Amarillo streets and who voted to pass a controversial ordinance to fine businesses for not enforcing the City of Amarillo’s mask mandate. In addition, Sauer voted to approve the issuance of debt without voter approval in an effort to finance the Amarillo Civic Center project. That effort was eventually ruled illegal in court.
Crump is facing six opponents in his campaign this year: Ray White, Margie Gonzales, Chip Hunt, Josh Craft, Kelsey Richardson, and Sherie Wood.
Election Day is May 6.
