More than 50,000 local voters cast their ballots in the first week of early voting.
Through the end of the day on Sunday, October 27th, 14,421 Potter County voters had voted in person, while about 1,000 voted by mail. In Randall County, 33,266 had voted in person while about 2,000 voted by mail. Across the two counties, nearly 48,000 in-person and 3,000 mail-in ballots have been cast.
In-person turnout is up significantly from this point in the 2020 general election. In the first week of early voting in 2020 only about 38,000 in-person votes had been cast. According to numbers from the Texas Secretary of State, the percentage of registered voters who have voted in-person is also up. In Potter, the figure increased from 21.6% in 2020 to 24.3% in 2024. In Randall, the figure increased from 27.4% in 2020 to 33.23% in 2024.
While in-person turnout is up, the number of people voting by mail is down. In 2020, across both counties, there were over 9,000 mail-in votes cast. This year, only about half that number of voters have requested mail-in ballots by the October 25th deadline. As of writing, only about 2/3rds of the mail-in ballots requested have been returned and received by the counties.
Early voting continues through Friday, November 1st. Election Day is Tuesday, November 5th.
