Following the defeat of Amarillo’s Proposition A on Tuesday, the key organizer behind the measure reacted to the results on social media.
In a post to Facebook, Mark Lee Dickson, the organizer behind the Sanctuary City for the Unborn effort noted that Amarillo became the first Texas city to reject a ballot initiative to adopt such a title. Dickson placed the blame for Prop A’s failure on the efforts of several pro-choice groups, and two local elected officials.
“While Women's March, Planned Parenthood, the ACLU of Texas, AVOW, and many other pro-abortion organizations played a role in defeating Prop A, they could not have had this victory without the help of Amarillo Mayor Cole Stanley and Councilman Tom Scherlen who led the way in spreading misinformation about our state's abortion laws and the proposed Sanctuary City for the Unborn Ordinance,” Dickson wrote.
Dickson went on to state that the battle over the sanctuary city issue was not over — and alluded to more efforts to come in the Panhandle.
“Amarillo truly is the new Alamo for the pro-life movement in Texas. The fight is far from over in the City of Amarillo,” he wrote.
As we reported, Proposition A was defeated with 59 percent of voters voting against the measure.
