Medical claims negotiator Caroline Fairly (R-Amarillo) has officially won her bid for Texas State House District 87.

Fairly won the general election with about 80% of the vote. As of writing, most counties within the district have all precincts reporting, with Moore and Carson Counties each having 7 precincts still outstanding.

Real estate professional Timothy Gassaway was the main challenger against Fairly, though he only earned roughly 20% of the vote. Life/consciousness coach Jeffrey McGunegle, who was running as a write-in, received roughly 0.1% of the vote, making it his second consecutive last-place finish after earning 6th place in the 2023 Amarillo mayoral election.

Fairly will replace outgoing state representative Four Price (R-Amarillo), who announced his decision not to seek reelection last year. Fairly defeated challengers Cindi Bulla., Richard Beyea, and Jesse Quackenbush to win the Republican Party nomination in March.

Fairly will officially take office at the start of the state’s upcoming legislative session in January.
