The City of Amarillo has temporarily re-opened applications for the Animal Management and Welfare and Library Advisory Boards.
Applications were opened due to vacancies on the boards resulting from member resignations. Amarillo City Council was set to make appointments to fill the vacancies during their regular meeting on Tuesday. However, the council chose instead to delay taking action and asked city staff to re-open applications.
The current members of the Library Advisory Board are John Esler, Christy Gagnon, Shawn Read, and Lillian Withrow. Staff had recommended appointing Courtney White prior to the council asking for applications to be re-opened.
The current members of the Animal Management & Welfare Advisory Board are David Martinez, Charlie Sanchez, Bethany Schilling, and Les Simpson. Staff had recommended appointing Sandra McCart prior to the council asking for applications to be re-opened.
In both cases, the council noted they would consider the staff recommendations but wanted to widen the pool of available candidates.
The deadline to apply is May 23rd, with the council expected to take action during their next regular meeting on May 28th. The application form can be found at this link.
The council did choose to fill a vacancy on the Condemnation Appeals Commission, as members of that board must be chosen from the current members of the Construction Advisory and Appeals Commission. Ryan Glaze was appointed to fill that vacancy.
