Congressman Ronny Jackson (R-Amarillo) is expected to win reelection unopposed in the upcoming general election after prospective challengers failed to qualify for the ballot.
Libertarian nominee Mike Kolls was declared ineligible. According to his campaign website, he was removed because he “did not pay the onerous and insulting filing fees.”
Independent Henry Atkinson also attempted to challenge Jackson, though his application was rejected by the Texas Secretary of State. We reached out to the Secretary of State’s office to ask why his application was rejected. While they could not confirm the reason, they indicated that it was likely because he failed to collect the required number of valid petition signatures. We also reached out to Atkinson’s campaign for comment but have not received a response.
The Democratic Party did not field a candidate against Jackson, though the Potter County Democratic Party had been supporting Atkinson.
Jackson was first elected in 2020 following the retirement of Mac Thornberry. Jackson emerged from a crowded Republican primary, bolstered by an endorsement from President Trump.
