Les Simpson Seeking Second City Council Term

Amarillo City Councilman Les Simpson announced he will be seeking a second term in office on Wednesday.

In the announcement, which was posted to his campaign’s Facebook page, Simpson states that “while we’ve accomplished a lot, there’s still work to be done.”

The announcement points to his work with public safety, trash services, community improvements, and conservative spending. He also highlights his championship of the AEDC, one issue which has occasionally put him at odds with his fellow councilmembers.

Simpson won his first term in 2023, having won first place in the first round before securing a majority of the vote in the runoff.

So far, Simpson is the only member of the council to announce plans to seek reelection, though similar announcements are expected from other incumbents, as well as challengers, in the next few weeks.

The first day to officially file for the ballot is January 15th, while the last day is February 14th. Election Day will be May 3rd.
