Following City Councilman Josh Craft’s announcement he would not seek another term, educator Patrick Miller has announced his intent to run in the now open race for Place One.

In a statement, Craft said that his decision came “after much prayer, thought, and reflection.” While Craft will not seek another term on the council, he also stated he will continue to work to serve the public. “I remain committed to our city’s success and look forward to finding new ways to contribute to its growth and progress,” said Craft.

Not long after the Place One race was opened by Craft, educator Patrick Miller announced his intent to run. During a event held at City Hall, Miller, a former Amarillo College Board Regent, highlighted a platform focused on a “strong economy, safe community, and reliable infrastructure.” Miller also announced his campaign slogan, “Putting Amarillo First.”

Miller’s campaign treasurer is Amarillo National Bank branch manager Adrian Meander. Meander previously served on the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors before resigning in the wake of the RANGE controversy.

So far, the only candidates to announce their intent to run in the upcoming May city election are Patrick Miller in Place One and incumbent Les Simpson in Place Four. Place Two Councilman Don Tipps, Place Three Councilman Tom Scherlen, and Mayor Cole Stanley have not yet announced if they will seek another term.
