APD Receives Tax Scam Calls

The Amarillo Police Department is warning local residents about a tax scam happening in our area.

According to the APD, some local residents have been getting calls from scammers. The scammers will spoof phone numbers and tell the person that they will go to jail if they do not pay their taxes over the phone.

APD says "The Amarillo Police Department will not call to enforce any outstanding IRS taxes. The IRS will never call and demand immediate payment on owed taxes and will always send a letter in the mail before contacting anyone."

Residents are being reminded never to give out information over the phone.

Attempts scams can be reported to the Federal Trade Commission.
