Amarillo Independent School District has agreed to purchase the former home of Hastings Entertainment in Amarillo.
On Monday night, Amarillo ISD board members voted 4-1 to approve the purchase of the former warehouse. Board member James Allen voted against purchasing the property.
The former warehouse was once home to Hastings Entertainment in Amarillo. The Sam Marmaduke Distribution Center was the main storage and distribution facility for the national company and it employed hundreds of Amarilloans.
During the meeting, board members agreed to the $3.4 million purchase price for the warehouse and its parking lot. Tax records show that the property has an appraisal value of $478,000.
The warehouse is in the same general area as the Galleries at Sunset Center and is near Wills Elementary School in Amarillo.
Omni Capital Corporation is the current owner of the facility.
It is unclear what plans Amarillo Independent School District has for the now-vacant facility.
