"WT Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) will host a blogging workshop via Skype with Natasha Nicholes at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, in the WTAMU Agricultural and Natural Sciences Building, Room 201.
Nicholes, a successful Chicago blogger, runs a blog titled Houseful of Nicholes. The blog is focused on urban homesteading and covers everything from local events to education, food and farming, homemaking skills and international travel. In addition, Nicholes and her husband also are involved with Habitat for Humanity. Houseful of Nicholes was nominated for an Iris Award, which recognizes outstanding work in the field of parenthood content creation and blogging.
She’s worked with prominent brands like Samsung, General Mills, Dream Kids and Monsanto, a modern agriculture company that focuses on sustainable food production. Nicholes also has spoken at a variety of conferences, including BlogHer, National Box Tops University and various Illinois Farm Bureau summits.
Shalin Pinkerton, ACT president, developed the idea of the conference after seeing Nicholes speak at the 2017 Ag Media Summit over the summer.
“As a club, we do a lot of leadership workshops,” Pinkerton said. “We want to give our club members, and anyone else interested, a better look at what agricultural communications look like in action in the real world. Blogging skills are in demand.”
The workshop will aim to cover both technical blogging skills and the challenges surrounding writing a blog on agricultural issues. All University ACT members and other agriculture and media students are welcome to join the workshop."
