Cole Hamels, a star pitcher for the Texas Rangers organization, donated his $9.4 million Missouri mansion to charity this week.
Hamels announced on Monday that he and his wife donated their mansion in Missouri to Camp Barnabas. Hamels and Camp Barnabas finalized the donation on Friday after the home had been sitting on the market, according to ESPN.
The Texas ace said in a statement that he donated the home to help dreams come true for the children at Camp Barnabas.
"Seeing the faces, hearing the laughter, reading the stories of the kids they serve; there is truly nothing like it," Hamels said. "Barnabas makes dreams come true, and we felt called to help them in a big way."
According to ESPN, Hamels and his wife expected to move into the mansion after its purchase but decided against it when he was traded to the Texas Rangers from the Philadelphia Phillies.
