Canyon has been listed in a new article detailing the safest college towns in the United States.
In a new set of rankings from SafeWise, Canyon was ranked number twelve in a listing of the safest college towns in the United States. Home of West Texas A&M University, the site gave Canyon the honor based on its low crime rates and active cultural scene.
"In 2015, Canyon reported fewer than 190 total crimes, including just twenty-four violent offenses," SafeWise wrote about Canyon. "Crime prevention measures like the Citizen Police Academy and Canyon Crime Stoppers help get the whole community involved in keeping this college city safe."
The only college town in Texas to make the list, Canyon was narrowly edged out of the top ten rankings by Hanover, New Hampshire and Northfield, Minnesota. Taking the top place on the list this year is Durham, New Hampshire.
