January is School Board Recognition Month

Residents are encouraged to recognize the men and women serving on the Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees as January is School Board Appreciation Month in Texas.

According to information from the Texas Association of School Boards, January is School Board Appreciation Month. During this month, residents of the school district are being encouraged to recognize the role that the members of the local school board play in the district and region as a whole.

"Recognizing board members for this commitment and sacrifice takes a combined effort on the part of all those they serve: administrators, school staff, students, and the community," TASB wrote online. "Although showing appreciation should be a year-round process, taking advantage of the designated School Board Recognition Month in January assures that these important people receive some of the thanks they deserve."

The Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees is made up of seven members. Jim Austin and F. Scott Flow serve as president and vice president of the board, respectively. Also serving on the board are: James Allen, John Betancourt, John Ben Blanchard, Renee McCown and Cristy Cooper Wilkinson.
