Man Charged with Murder in Amarillo Pizzeria Shooting

A man has been charged with murder following a shooting at an Amarillo pizzeria.

Amarillo Police report that officers were dispatched to the La Bella Pizza location at 3801 Olsen at 10:30pm on Tuesday night on the report of a robbery in which shots had been fired. When officers arrived, they found that a white male suspect had walked in the back door of the business and was armed with a silver handgun. The suspect grabbed an employee by the hood of his sweatshirt and forced him to walk toward the front of the business. As the suspect approached the front area of the pizzeria, an armed employee, who is licensed to carry a firearm, confronted the suspect. The suspect pointed his pistol at the armed employee and employee shot the suspect.

The shot suspect, identified as Clayton Jerrell Morgan, 36, died at a local hospital as a result of his injuries. Police say that the gun used by Morgan in the robbery appears to be a BB or pellet gun that was manufactured to look like a real firearm.

While investigating, officers found that Ruben Ryel Rios, 29, was also involved in the robbery. Rios was apprehended by officers early on Wednesday morning and was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on the charge of murder.

According to APD, Texas law allows people to be charged with murder if they take part in a crime in which another person is killed, even if they did not take part in the killing.
