A driver has died following a wreck in South Amarillo in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers were dispatched at 1:34AM today on the report of a collision in the 5700 block of South Georgia. A 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by a 23 year old male, had been southbound on Georgia when the driver lost control of his vehicle, crossed the northbound lanes, and struck a steel power transmission pole on the east side of the road. The Cavalier then continued south for about half a block before coming to a rest.
The driver was transported to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries. The driver’s identity has not yet been publicly released.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the collision. This incident remains under investigation by the APD Traffic Investigation Squad.
