Dee Johnson has announced her candidacy for the 47th District Court bench in next year’s Republican primary election.

According to her campaign announcement, Johnson will be running for the seat currently held by retiring incumbent Dan Schaap. The office oversees family, civil, and criminal law cases in Armstrong, Potter, and Randall Counties.

Johnson is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and St. Mary’s University, where she received her law degree, and holds over three decades of legal experience.

Outside of her legal work, Johnson is involved in several local organizations and is married to local dentist Mike Peters. Johnson is also a mother of two children.

Thus far, Johnson is the only announced candidate for the 47th District Court seat. The Republican primary election for this position will likely be held early next year.
