Former Potter County Republican Vice Chairman Mike Yazbek is officially switching parties.
According to local Democratic party leaders, Yazbek filed this weekend to run for chairman of the Potter County Democratic Party. Yazbek confirmed the filing via a phone call with Pioneer staff.
A former precinct chairman for the Republican Party, Yazbek ran in 2023 for a seat on the Amarillo College Board of Regents. Yazbek, who operates a knife-sharpening business, was also a delegate to the 2022 Republican Party of Texas convention in Houston.
Alongside Yazbek, Juliann Fulton has also filed for the primary race for county chair. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
