Both Amarillo City Council and the Potter County Commissioners’ Court met on June 8th to extend their disaster declarations by 30 days in response to recent flooding. During the special meeting of Amarillo City Council, the council also approved a contract for a temporary pump at the Greenways playa lake.

This followed similar moves by the City of Canyon and Randall County to extend their disaster declarations. The Randall County Commissioners’ Court met on June 7th to extend the county’s declaration “until rescinded” in accordance with Texas Government Code Chapter 418. Canyon City Commission extended their disaster declaration during their regular meeting on June 5th, with the extension lasting until their next regular meeting on June 19th.

Both Potter and Randall Counties are also under a disaster declaration issued by Governor Greg Abbott.

Much of the area will also remain under a flood warning issued by the National Weather Service, which is set to expire at 5:00 pm on Friday, June 9th.
