Potter County Commission candidate David Martinez has scored a few major endorsements in recent weeks — including from a former member of the Potter County Commissioners’ Court.

Martinez, the Democratic nominee for Potter County Commissioner in Precinct 1, has announced several endorsements on social media in the past few days. Many of the endorsements are from well known local activists and advocates. Martinez also earned the endorsement of Central South Carpenters Local 665 Union and from former Amarillo College Regent Patrick Miller.

One notable endorsement that stands out prominently among Martinez’s list of endorsements comes from former County Commissioner Robert Ruiz, who represented Precinct 2 on the Court. Ruiz, who served with Martinez’s opponent while in office, wrote a letter in support of Martinez that the candidate posted on his social media account.

Martinez is challenging Republican Commissioner H.R. Kelly in the November general election. Kelly won a closer-than-expected primary for his seat in March against antique store owner Chip Hunt and is now in the first contested general election campaign of his political career.

Voters in southwest Potter County will decide this race on November 5th.
