Challenger David Martinez (D) is outspending incumbent H. R. Kelly (R) in the race for Potter County Commissioners Court Precinct 1, according to finance reports.
According to finance reports, since the race began last year, Kelly has spent a total of $2,311.59 on his reelection bid, while Martinez has spent $2,542.87.
So far, about half of the money spent by Martinez has gone to UZ Marketing, where he has paid for yard signs, push cards, door hangers, and campaign buttons.
Kelly has spent the majority of his money with C&B Marketing. In total, he has paid the company $1,868.93 for push cards, buttons, and magnetic calendars.
While Martinez has outspent Kelly, Kelly is significantly ahead in terms of fundraising. So far, Kelly has reported raising $4,400. Kelly’s largest donor this election season has been Claire O’Neal, who donated $1,000.
Martinez, meanwhile, has raised $2,280. His largest donor so far has been Mike Purcell, who donated $700.
Kelly narrowly beat Chip Hunt in the Republican Party primary earlier this year. Hunt’s campaign focused on criticism of the new Potter County District Courts Building. Though Kelly expressed pride in the project, Hunt criticized the project as being over-budget, mismanaged, and late.
Martinez won the Democratic Primary election unopposed. He has also voiced criticism towards the Courts Building, noting the high cost and the fact that voters were not given an opportunity to vote on the project.
The general election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5th. The Potter County Commissioners Court Precinct 1 election is one of the only contested local races set to appear on the general election ballot.
