The Young Conservatives of Texas organization has released its legislative rankings following the 86th Texas Legislature.
An annual event for the organization, YCT researched votes taken by a number of legislators in Austin graded the legislators based on conservative and liberal votes. This year’s YCT rankings found the Texas House’s average score to be 50% and the Senate’s average score to be 59%.
For Amarillo’s legislators, the three individuals who represent at least part of the city in the Texas Legislature fared poorly. In the Texas House, Rep. Four Price (R-Amarillo) received a 57 rating, which is slightly higher than his total career rating of 54. Rep. John Smithee (R-Amarillo) received a 55 rating for the 86th Legislature, which is well below his career rating of 71.
In the Texas Senate, Sen. Kel Seliger (R-Amarillo) was again ranked as the least conservative Republican Senator, with a rating of 52. Seliger holds a career rating of 55.
