Young Conservatives of Texas Releases Legislative Rankings

The Young Conservatives of Texas organization has released its legislative rankings following the 86th Texas Legislature.

An annual event for the organization, YCT researched votes taken by a number of legislators in Austin graded the legislators based on conservative and liberal votes. This year’s YCT rankings found the Texas House’s average score to be 50% and the Senate’s average score to be 59%.

For Amarillo’s legislators, the three individuals who represent at least part of the city in the Texas Legislature fared poorly. In the Texas House, Rep. Four Price (R-Amarillo) received a 57 rating, which is slightly higher than his total career rating of 54. Rep. John Smithee (R-Amarillo) received a 55 rating for the 86th Legislature, which is well below his career rating of 71.

In the Texas Senate, Sen. Kel Seliger (R-Amarillo) was again ranked as the least conservative Republican Senator, with a rating of 52. Seliger holds a career rating of 55.
