Potter County Sheriff Brian Thomas is officially on the ballot, seeking a fifth term as the county’s top law enforcement official.

According to ballot filings reported to the Texas Secretary of State, Thomas has filed to seek re-election in the March 2024 Republican primary election. Thomas, who was first elected as sheriff in 2008, is a career law enforcement officer who was most recently re-elected in 2020.

Arguably among Amarillo’s most popular elected officials, Thomas has earned praise for his leadership of the department. Thomas also made headlines in 2023, after completing his degree at Amarillo College after four decades of studying.

Thus far, no challengers have announced a campaign against Thomas. If no opponent files, the Republican will begin his fifth term in January 2025.

The Republican primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
